Plans have been submitted to transform a redundant oil refinery in Thurrock into a “superhub” the 5 million square foot development is offering 4,500 jobs, hotel, leisure and commercial space, it could be one of the biggest regeneration projects in Northern Europe.
Known as the Thames Enterprise park, the development would be located on the manorway in Stanford-le-hope, adjacent to the London Gateway rail terminal.
Development company Greenergy and trades contractor iSec submitted a planning application to Thurrock council for the massive project in September.
The central hub will incorporate a range of uses, including: offices, leisure facilities, education resources, hotel and conferencing facilities. There will also be a food park, energy and wasterelated facilities and retail and community facilities.
The plans state: “The project presents a unique regeneration opportunity, proposing the introduction of UK’s first true multi-modal superhub for industrial businesses.”
Thames Enterprise Park, is hoping to transform the former Coryton Oil Refinery which hasn’t been used since 2012. The“superhub” will be adjacent to London gateway Port, offering direct access to the river, a rail freight interchange and road links to London with the A13 and M25.
The redevelopment includes 167 hectares of the former Coryton Oil Refinery, providing 480,000 square meters of commercial development. The planning statement details the separate areas, and the space that could be allocated to them. Up to 36,000 sq m for industrial and 33,000 sq m for energy companies and energy regeneration. There will also be 18,200 sq m for a business centre which would be open up to entrepreneurs and would offer office space and a hotel. They plan to have over 1,300 sq m of restaurants, cafes, pubs, bars, takeaway and retail facilities on the site and more than 500sq m for lorries, buses, coaches and visitors.
