The Southend Shakedown

Southend Shakedown took the seaside town by storm, transforming the coast with quirky bikes, vintage mopeds and the biker atmosphere to match. This annual event was bought back with a bang and will continue for years to come.

The shakedown was born in 1998 when acouple hundred bikers wanted something to do on the bank holiday weekend around Easter time. Over the 21 years that followed it has turned into thousands of riders aiming to come together once a year.

In 2016 the shakedown was unfortunately cancelled after its organisers Ace Café were unable to keep it going. However, a committee was organised by Adam Bell, chairman of the Southern Shakedown Resurrection, and the members saw this vibrant event light up the Southend seafront once again.

After many months of planning, meetings and hard work the Southend Shakedown was back bringing 5000 bikers with it. This event bought over 40,000 people to the coast organisers said it shows tourists ‘what Southend has to offer’.

Tourists and locals were able to admire thousands of different vehicles including Harley Davidson’s. however, this year not only welcomed rider to Southend, but traders and stalls for specialised clothing, a group that helps to prevent bike theft and even face painting for families and children.
